The drills in youth soccer coaching should first be aimed at teaching players, the basics of the game. Have your players do the stretches and warm-up sessions before they start with the practice sessions. These stretches and warm-up sessions are necessary to avoid any injury to players during the practice.
Each of your practice session must have a specific objective. For this reason, identify and then focus on just one or two drills per week. Plan your training schedule in a way that enables you to cover a new set of drills every week. When players start with the practice matches, they should be made to perform such drills that show up their areas if improvement.
A good number of matches are won because one team out of the two wears out through the end of the play. As a result, it’s necessary that a soccer ball is used maximum in carrying out the drills meant for strength training.
You can divide your youth soccer practice session into two groups. Cardiovascular resistance and muscular strength can be two categories that result in developing alertness, power, co-ordination, pace, and quickness in the players.
“Running in formation” is one of the most efficient and enjoyable youth soccer drills. All players in the team are used in this drill. It is a great way to build teamwork. The players learn the value of your advice. Also, it really is a pleasure to watch your team run through in perfect formation on the ground before the game starts.
Another useful drill is “Following the leader”. This develops a player’s ability to dribble the ball with their heads up and following orders. It also engages the entire team with each player having a ball.
Gaining access to the ball, also known as “touch on the ball” is a must in soccer. Use the “roll over” drill to teach the kids this skill. This drill is very enjoyable. The players may feel a little awkward at first because it may be difficult to keep the ball moving and going in a straight line. But this will improve with time and practice.
This drill is very useful in helping the players learn balance, agility, and a touch on the ball.
The kids soccer drills should teach the players everything that they should know about soccer. “Karaoke” drill makes the players achieve these skills. Practicing it makes the players run, handle the ball, and keep their balance along with building cardiac endurance.
